The Steiner Optik brand was founded in 1947 by Karl Steiner. Its first product was the 35mm camera "Steinette". In 1955, the company began producing binoculars, and eventually discontinued the production of cameras. The breakthrough moment for the brand was the introduction of binoculars with high resistance to extreme conditions of use, which made Steiner-Optik the main supplier of binoculars for the German army.

The Steiner company currently produces binoculars for both military and civilian use. They offer models designed for water sports, outdoor enthusiasts, ornithologists, and for use in the military and police. Steiner is the author of many innovations, such as binoculars integrated with a compass, nitrogen filling of binoculars, or binoculars with a filter protecting against laser radiation. The brand also produces collimators and rifle scopes.
