Afghanistan can't get any peace: the British-Afghan wars of the 19th and 20th centuries, the bloody Soviet intervention of the 1970s and 1980s, and finally the more than decade-long clashes between Islamic terrorists and North Atlantic Treaty Organization troops. After September 11, 2001, when the world declared war on terrorism, it was only a matter of time before NATO troops intervened in the Middle East.
Lieutenant Colonel Grzegorz Kaliciak went to Afghanistan on a six-month stabilization mission ten years after the attacks on the WTC as commander of one of the bases established as part of the International Security Assistance Force. For six months, he had to contend with incessant Taliban attacks and the distrust of the civilian population. Polish soldiers found themselves in the middle of hostilities. There were regular fierce clashes, the situation required difficult decisions, excellent training and often sacrifices. The public still knows too little about the actions of Polish soldiers.
Afghanistan: to Answer with Fire is not only an uncompromising account of the mission in a region of permanent conflict, but also an introduction to the reality of the Polish army.
The book in a Polish language version.
