In April 2004, in the central Iraqi holy city of Karbala, Polish soldiers fought a bloody battle against the radical militants of Muktada as-Sadr. Surrounded by enemies, in a hostile city, they defended the two-story City Hall building for several days without air support. The rebels were repeatedly outnumbered.
Every now and then they renewed frenzied attacks. They had mortars, RPGs, "Palladium" grenade launchers and diektarievs, whose shells can pierce the armor of a BRDM. They did not care about the laws of war and were ready to die for their cause.
This is the story of the commander of the City Hall soldiers. First-hand account, without retouching - a story of courage and atrocities of war.
The book in Polish language version.
