Book "Ucieczka Przed Bombami" - Leszek Adamczewski
Escape from the Bombs is, based mainly on surviving Polish, German, Russian and American documents, a sensational story of the fate of cultural treasures from the Wartheland evacuated by the Germans from Warthegau cities threatened by Allied bombing, primarily from occupied Poznań, but also from Łódź, Gniezno and others. The author follows the trail of evacuation transports to the fortifications of Międzyrzecz and the salt mines of Grasleben, to the vicinity of Dresden and Lower Silesia.
In Escape from the Bombs, the author also outlines some of the events in the vicinity where the Poznan treasures ended up, such as the bombing of Dresden and the construction of Adolf Hitler's giant quarters near Walbrzych. It also describes a little-known episode when the Poznań relics and the Katyn archive rubbed up against each other on the evacuation routes, and presents the most likely hypothesis for the destruction of this macabre collection.
