A Trapper's Life or My Sixty Years of Trapping, Trading and Indian Wars is the passionate story of a trapper's life in the American Wild West. Sickly teenage Bill's parents send him into the care of the famous trapper Williams, so that for a year of fur trading in the far west, he will gain vigor and health. The year-long expedition transforms into decades of free wild life in the open air - among bears, beavers, friendly and hostile Indians.
Through the eyes of the author we can visit a magical and very violent world. We witness the American westward expansion and the eventual collapse of the civilization of native North Americans. The author, not being a researcher, but an active participant in the events, casts his subjective view. It is a passionate read - the action is straight out of the best westerns: it starts from the first page and continues without respite until the last - which gives much food for thought.
The book in Polish language version.
