Rafal Kubinski - Advanced SERE Instructor. Graduate and then a long-time instructor of the elite "PATROL" course for commanders of reconnaissance subunits of the Land Forces. Trainer of candidates for SERE instructors and soldiers who took part in missions abroad, including the Republic of Iraq, the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, as well as sharpshooters preparing for missions in the Republic of Kosovo and the Republic of Chad. He is the author of the books "Sniper - the hidden weapon of commanders", "Snipers in special operations" and "Invisible - camouflage on the battlefield".
"Survival during SERE training" - is not the first, but I also hope that it will not be the last book by Rafal on the subject of survivalism, or more precisely: on the military view of the problem. The publication in question, in my opinion, will be (and as you are reading this, it is) an excellent study of the letter "S" from the acronym SERE. The priorities described are set forth in NATO publications and training, and the Polish Armed Forces, as a member of NATO, implement this in their training activities. Of course, no theoretical knowledge that has not been verified in practice will be useful in an isolation or similar situation. The book describes in a very accessible way the priorities that isolated personnel should certainly follow. I take the position that in circumstances where a plan, procedure, communication will work, and colleagues know how to act in certain situations bearing the hallmarks of isolation, survival will not be useful. It is difficult to assume that this will always be the case, and therefore we are preparing that survival skills will come in handy. For people interested in the subject, this book will be a good addition to the library. However, we should remember that it is training that makes perfect. Raphael describes the minimum requirements for prioritizing survival, and anything we know and can do in addition can only help us. I don't know of a book or training that would exhaust the subject and prepare us for all the "surprises", and this applies to all areas of our lives, and that's why let's take the opportunity that Rafal described one of these areas and read.
- Lt. Col. Waldemar Niwald, Head of the Department for the Recovery of Isolated Personnel of the General Command of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland
A must-read for any student of the art of survival. In principle, it is addressed to soldiers, but the advice contained in the publication can confidently use anyone who wants to break away from civilization and try their hand at clashing with nature. The author has comprehensively approached the issue and in simple words presents all aspects of living in a natural environment.
- Lt. Col. Rafal Koza, Chief of the Isolated Personnel Recovery Division of the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces
The book in Polish language version.
