Wisport Wildcat 65 l Backpack - MAPA
A military backpack with a nominal capacity of 65 liters, made of Cordura, developed by the Wisport company from Wroclaw in cooperation with commandos of the Special Commando Unit (former 1st Special Commando Regiment) from Lubliniec. Developed on the basis of the concept of the well-known Raccoon backpacks with a capacity of 45 and 65 liters, it is a compromise between capacity and the weight of the equipment carried and the mobility of the wearer of the luggage.
The main compartment, with a capacity of 65 liters, can be divided into two smaller ones - the upper one of about 2/3 of its capacity and the lower one of about 1/3 of its capacity. The partition is provided by a rope-stripped inner collar - convenient to use when you remove a sleeping bag from the lower compartment, and the contents of the upper compartment move to the bottom by themselves.
Access to the main compartment is also possible from the front, from the top and from the bottom through a detachable bottom - closed with a thick, spiral plastic zipper. Such a solution allows more convenient and efficient unpacking of the backpack in the lying down position, especially when the lower part of the main compartment is occupied by the so-called "sleeping wagon" - accommodating a sleeping bag and personal belongings.
On the back side, at the bottom of the compartment, there is a flat pocket that allows stable carrying of, for example, a radio station. Above the pocket are:
- fixed MOLLE panel (inch wide webbing sewn in every inch),
- flat pocket for documents, maps,
- an eyelet for attaching a hydration system bag (camelbak),
- an opening for bringing a hydration hose or antenna to the outside. The opening is protected against water, trickling down the hose or antenna.
On the front of the backpack there is a pocket more than 35 cm long - edged on both sides with a system of MOLLE webbing, which allows to treat it as an organizer. Through the pocket you can access the interior of the main compartment.
The backpack has a detachable top flap, which contains two pockets - also zippered.
The FAS Plus Ergonomic (Full Adjustable System) carrying system is fully adjustable, so that it is possible to adjust the positioning of the backpack on the back, depending on the angle of descent or approach, as well as whether the person carrying the backpack is wearing, for example, a resistance vest.
The carrying straps are quite wide and contoured so that the weight is distributed evenly on the shoulders. They are relieved by a wide hip belt - of course, it is possible to detach it if the person carrying the backpack is wearing a wide gun belt or a modular tactical belt for the vest. Thanks to quick-release fastex buckles on the suspenders, the backpack can be dropped in an instant if the need arises.
The front, side walls and flap have the webbing (pals) of the MOLLE-type mounting system, which allows bags, first aid kits and pouches to be attached to the outside of the backpack.
A system of compensating trocars and straps (which allow you to adjust the size of the backpack to the amount of luggage carried, to prevent it from moving inside the backpack, which causes noise and imbalance) allows you to attach to the backpack items that will not fit inside, or due to the need to remain in constant readiness for use must be "at hand". Thanks to this, the amount of equipment carried, especially such bulky equipment, can be significantly larger than fit only in the main compartment.
The backpack has many interesting solutions, very useful during use, such as transport handles on the sides, convenient when crossing fords or lifting the backpack. Metal grommets on the strong side ears, allowing to attach the backpack to the outside of vehicles, which are also convenient in situations when there is a need to pull or lower the backpack on the line.
A number of useful accessories are included:
- a rain cover for the backpack - it is located in a hidden pocket on the bottom of the backpack closed with velcro (Velcro),
- a harness for a helmet or helmet - hidden in a small pocket above the zipper of the lower access to the main compartment,
- two side pockets, each with a capacity of 9 liters,
- hydration hose attachment brackets on the right and left suspenders.
Other features:
- removable waist belt,
- locking seams,
- quick release backpack system,
- chimney, liftable and detachable flap,
- two side handles for carrying the backpack,
- aluminum frame slats.
The backpack is made of Cordura, equipped with certified ITW NEXUS and Duraflex buckles and heavy-duty zippers, which ensures durability and reliability in any, even the most extreme conditions of use.
The camouflage pattern MAPA was designed by Maciej Dojlitko, a graduate and currently a researcher at the Faculty of Architecture and Design of the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk, author of, among other publications, Theory of Deconstruction of Visual Communication. Tools for designing military camouflage (Gdansk 2015). The innovative design, supported by convincing theoretical and experimental arguments, including computer analysis of thousands of photographs of the terrain, attracted the attention of specialists and military clothing manufacturers. In 2017, the MAPA camouflage made its debut at the International Defense Industry Exhibition in Kielce as a camouflage pattern for the Dromader system of armor and uniforms from Maskpol, which is part of the Polish Armament Group. The system was created for soldiers of the Territorial Defense Army, but the MAPA camouflage itself was also considered as a perspective pattern for the entire Polish Armed Forces, where it could replace camouflage wz.93. Unfortunately, the MAPA camouflage has not been implemented as an official camouflage pattern of the Polish Army to date.
The most important features of the MAPA camouflage in the basic forest variant:
- 6 colors that create layers resembling levels on a map,
- colors optimized for operations in the forests of Central Europe,
- use of the illusion of three-dimensionality and anamorphosis effect,
- biomorphic shapes making the design similar to vegetation,
- strongly contrasting elements imitating flashes of light and shadows,
- deformation of the masked silhouette using macro pattern,
- color noise reproduced by means of a micro pattern.
The MAPA pattern is an interesting alternative to the best contemporary camouflage patterns such as PenCott, MultiCam, Kryptek, Flecktarn or Finnish M/05. In some respects it is more advanced than them, and also better reproduces the colors found in Central European forests in the period from later spring to early autumn.
