The author, a war journalist covering extreme sports, starts running at the age of 40. Unfortunately, he is plagued by injuries. Sent to Mexico, he learns by chance about the Tarahumara tribe, also known as the Rarámuri (Running People). These Indians, living far from civilization, in a hard-to-reach canyon, can run distances of several hundred kilometers. It is significant that injuries hardly happen to them, and the Tarahumara run in simple sandals of their own construction. The author learns their secrets, introduces the most outstanding runners and the most difficult mountain marathons. Finally, he competes in the final, murderous race.
Christopher McDougall, going back to the beginnings of mankind, explains that we were created to run in order to hunt. He explains how athletic shoes can cause injuries and ways to avoid those injuries.
The book is written in Polish
