On August 1, 1944, there were half a million women in Warsaw. Many of them went to the Uprising as nurses, liaison officers, some grabbed weapons. They all fought for survival. A maiden from a good home repeated in her mind: “God, make me endure the torture.” A mother who gave birth just before the “W” hour rocked her child to the rhythm of exploding bombs. And eight-year-old Helen, led to certain death. “Mom, I don't want to die”. - she whispered.
For 63 days of heroic battle, they fought, feared, laughed, loved, mourned loved ones. The men stated: “The homeland comes first. You have to manage somehow.” Women were left alone, faced with dramatic dilemmas. Put something in the pot or buy bandages for the wounded? How will I die: from starvation or at the hands of the Germans? But the question of whether it was worth fighting did not come to their minds at all. Because there was only one answer.
Let's hear the voice of the girls from the Uprising.
The book is written in Polish.
