Book "Broń strzelecka XXI wieku" by Leigh Neville

The new century, giving rise to the new millennium, has not turned out to be any calmer than the previous one. The many local armed conflicts waged in the Middle East (Iraq, Afghanistan), Africa and even in Europe (Ukraine) mean that armies need more and more up-to-date armaments and equipment.


Thanks to technological advances in many areas of science and technology, today's weapons are lighter, smaller and more accurate than ever, models undreamed of by special forces soldiers a quarter of a century ago have entered the armament of the "gray infantry" in the past two decades - but their introduction required huge financial and logistical resources.


The author focuses on changes occurring in small arms, that is, in the firearms of soldiers at the lowest level of tactical organization - the infantry squad. It describes models of pistols  used today;single-action rifles, automatic rifles and carbines, precision rifles and sniper rifles (and explains the differences between these groups), modern combat smoothbore rifles, as well as machine guns both at the squad level (5.56mm and 7.62mm caliber machine guns) and platoon-level support (ukaems, wukaems, barrel grenade launchers). It also describes development trends for each of these weapons and phenomena such as the disappearance of classic machine guns, displaced by short-barreled automatic carbines.
