French special forces by possessing significant capabilities and the ability to perform the tasks assigned to them, are a valuable tool supporting France's foreign policy, which for many years was conducted independently (including being outside NATO military structures). Subordinate to the Special Operations Command (Commandement des opérations spéciales, COS), they are not as widely known as their US, British, Russian or Israeli counterparts. However, being closely subordinated to French policy for many years (and pursuing its interests in former colonial territories), they have developed a number of interesting solutions that are worth a look.
The publication "French Special Forces" is intended to introduce the reader to the traditions associated with French special forces, provide an overview of the security policy of the French Republic and the resulting objectives and anticipated tasks. The author describes views on the conduct of special operations and lists the capabilities of French soldiers in specific functional areas, as well as examples of their involvement in the 21st century.
Reserve Lt. Col. Dr. Marek Gryga is the author of a number of publications and studies devoted to commandos and the operations they conduct.
The book is written in Polish.
