Daniel Carter Beard (1850 - 1941) is an American traveler and explorer, as well as a writer, cartoonist and social reformer. The author takes readers of his book on a fascinating trip across the United States, during which he introduces all the types of shelters he had the opportunity to explore.
D. C. Beard spent his youth exploring the wilderness, which inspired his drawings of nature. During his life he became very involved in scouting. In 1905, he founded the"Sons of Daniel Boone" organization, which was later merged with theBoy Scouts of America, the largest scouting organization in the United States.
The book"Shelters, Shacks and Huts" presents techniques for harvesting, processing and storing wood, and, in keeping with the title, using it to build shelters, huts and shacks. There is something for everyone, as there are both simple shelters, which are based on the terrain, and more advanced ones, which include a log house. It should be noted here that the techniques presented were developed with scouts in mind, so they do not require above-average strength and are not overly complicated.
This is an ideal book for lovers of nature, bushcraft, survivalism, prepping and anyone who wants to make something on their own.
The book has a Polish language version.
