The parka jacket is a popular long jacket with a deep hood, often chosen as a jacket for winter and early spring. It will also work well in late autumn. There is also a much more insulated, second variant of this jacket: the Alaska. It is derived from the traditional anorak-type jackets used by polar explorers and indigenous people in the Arctic and sub-Arctic areas: Greenland, Canada and Alaska. Originally, these jackets were not unzipped at the front. The primary purpose of parkas jackets is to protect against harsh weather conditions such as rain, snow, wind and temperatures going well below zero. It is for this reason that they are also called Arctic jackets.
Today, Alaska jackets are made from modern varieties of nylon that prevent water from entering the material and filling. In addition, the water resistance of parka jackets is often provided by modern membranes that protect the material from getting wet. Warmth and protection from wind penetration will be taken care of by insulating materials specially developed for this purpose, such as the Raccoon Faux Fur polyester used in Alaska jackets by the Columbia brand. If it's really cold and you need even more protection from the cold, we have a solution for that. Many Alaska jackets have additional shielding placed in the areas most prone to heat escape, so that radiated heat is reflected back inside. This works on a very similar principle to the emergency foil used in the rescue industry to protect against hypothermia.
The parka jacket also has a deep hood, additionally trimmed with artificial or natural fur, protecting the head from the attacks of gusts of frosty air and catching snow and rain before it reaches our face. An additional feature of the parka is a special strip of fabric fastened with buttons and loops, it prevents the wind from getting through the brass zipper. An iconic parka model is certainly the N-3B jacket from Alpha Industries, designed specifically for American strategic bomber pilots serving in the USAF. Originally, the N-3B had wool insulation, now synthetic fillings are used.
