Daniel Carter Beard (born June 21, 1850 in the United States, died June 11, 1941) was affectionately called "Uncle Dan" by his friends. He was a writer, illustrator and role model for young people. In 1905 he founded the organization "Sons of Daniel Boone" ("Sons of Daniel Boone"), which he later merged with the largest scouting organization in the United States, the "Boy Scouts of America" ("Boy Scouts of America").
In his youth, he explored the wild forest progress and drew nature. He began his professional work as an engineer and surveyor. Later he began working with several magazines, for which he wrote articles on scouting, technology, crafts or construction. He also illustrated books for authors such as Mark Twain and Ernest Crosby. His commitment to scouting was appreciated by all organizations in the United States. Many permanent scout camps were named after him. Beard died on June 11, 1941 at his home in Brooklands, Suffern, New York.
"Camp wisdom and woodcraft" (Camp lore and woodcraft) is the most important item in the bookcase of anyone who values Uncle Dan's knowledge and experience. In it, he presents condensed information on preparing for an expedition as well as those already useful on the trail. If you want to learn what and how to pack, how to light a fire, build a camp kitchen, prepare kitchen utensils or a nutritious meal, use an axe or, finally, choose a place to camp, this item is definitely for you. As always, the author illustrates his suggestions with wonderful sketches and interesting comparisons. He invites the reader on the trail of his expeditions describing it in a way full of love for nature, respect for it and the joy derived from being outdoors.
This book was written for young boys at a time when they were able to do much more with their hands than adult men in the 21st century. Readers are invited to acquire this knowledge and catch up on years of backlog. Become skilled and skillful visitors to forests, mountains and lands full of lakes. You don't know when these skills may become useful or even necessary to apply in real life.
