Preppers are often associated with survivalists, and this is not far from the truth: preppers and survivalists share a common trait - survival regardless of conditions.

Preppers, however, strive to be a self-reliant, self-sufficient person on a daily basis, independent of the things that the average person seems to need to live - electricity, money, fuel, stores, institutions, the system or other people.

He prepares in advance for any extreme situation that may threaten him and his family, from water poisoning, power outages or air pollution, to famine, economic crisis or global catastrophe. That's why he gathers food supplies, secures independent sources of energy, or develops an evacuation plan from the threatened region to a pre-prepared hiding place, which doesn't have to be a hut in the woods, but even a friend's house.

To many, what the preppers are doing seems excessive, as it is hard to imagine a global catastrophe. But a power outage of a few days already does, the book's authors argue, pointing out that in the middle of winter, for example, it involves a lack of heating, and always problems with supplies. Stores and gas stations will be closed for lack of electricity, so without food and fuel supplies, we may have difficulty surviving. Experienced preppers believe that an unprepared family in an extreme situation will already be in trouble within two weeks.

Anyone can become a prepper, say the authors, who introduce the history and principles of prepping, point out possible dangers, and present a nine-month plan for beginning preppers, prepared in cooperation with skilled preppers. Thanks to it, we can build our own safety system, which consists of equipment and accumulated supplies, knowledge and skills, as well as training and experience.This way we will always be prepared to survive
