"The law must also reach those who have seized great power and deliberately, by mutual agreement, used it to cause misfortune that will not miss any corner of the Earth." - Robert H. Jackson, chief US prosecutor
On November 20, 1945, representatives of the highest authorities of the defeated superpower stood before the International Military Tribunal in Nuremberg for the first time in history, accused of crimes of war, against humanity and peace. The main trial, in which Hermann Göring, Joachim von Ribbentrop and Hans Frank, among others, were tried, brought to light the criminal actions of the Third Reich. And while the Nuremberg verdict failed to prevent aggressive modern wars and crimes against humanity, they were more clearly defined and therefore became more easily identifiable. Henceforth, their perpetrators cannot feel impunity.
The famous, classic book by Joe J. Heydecker and Johannes Leeb presents the background of the trial and recalls the atmosphere of those years; it also includes the testimonies of the defendants and witnesses, as well as the sentences. It also describes the events of which the trial was the culmination - the birth and expansion of a criminal ideology. This Polish edition includes excerpts removed years ago by the Communist censors regarding the Hitler-Stalin pact and the Katyn crime.
The book in a Polish language version.
