The sweatshirt is designed on the model of the Ukrainian army's uniform sweatshirt. It is made from a material that is a combination of cotton and polyester. The material is lightweight and dries faster than 100% cotton. The model uses a Rip-Stop weave, which significantly increases the fabric's resistance to tears. The summer version additionally has mesh sewn into the inside of the sweatshirt, which improves breathability and wicking when worn.
The sweatshirt is fastened with a zip covered with a Velcro strap, and practicality is ensured by 4 ergonomic pockets:
- two located on the chest with Velcro fastening,
- one on each shoulder, fastened with a Velcro flap.
There are also 5 velcro panels sewn onto the sweatshirt, allowing any emblems such as insignia, the national flag, the unit emblem or so-called Morale Patches to be attached.
The name MM-14 is an abbreviation for маскувальний малюнок (maskuvalʹnyy malyunok = camouflage pattern) and the year 2014, when this camouflage was officially approved. The pattern refers to the American UCP camouflage, but shades were chosen to match the colours naturally found on Ukrainian territory. The introduction of the MM-14 camouflage pattern was an important part of the Ukrainian army's reform to break with post-Soviet identification. Unofficially, the MM14 camouflage also goes by the names Ukrainian Pixel Camo and Ukrainian Digital Camo.
