In the book "Berling's men in the Warsaw Uprising. Fights in Praga and the Czerniakow bridgehead in September 1944." the author, on the basis of source materials and numerous memoirs, describes both the situation of the insurgents at the beginning of September 1944, as well as the capture of Warsaw's Praga district by soldiers of the 1st Infantry Division and the battles of soldiers of the 3rd Infantry Division in the Czerniakow bridgehead. It also tries to shed new light on events that have not received reliable coverage for more than 70 years.
Czerniakow was then the only district with access to the Vistula River occupied by the insurgents. From across the river was to come the eagerly awaited help of Soviet soldiers and soldiers of the 1st Polish Army fighting alongside them. Despite fierce attacks from the German side, the insurgents managed to persevere in the bridgehead until the occupation of Warsaw's Praga district by Polish and Soviet troops. On the same day, the first soldiers of the 3rd Infantry Division arrived in Czerniakow and were ordered to support the insurgents in their fight against the Germans. According to some historians, Stalin, by accepting this order, deliberately sent Polish soldiers to certain death.
