Martyrdom literature is an important element of literature that portrays the suffering and heroism of people experiencing persecution for their beliefs, nationality or religion. Usually, this literature recounts real events, which documents the tragic fates of entire communities and individuals. The purpose of martyrdom literature is not only to commemorate individuals, but also to warn against repeating mistakes.

Literature of this kind tends to focus on periods of major conflict, such as the First and Second World Wars or the times of the Partitions of Poland. The content can include descriptions of life in camp conditions in concentration camps or Soviet gulags, or descriptions of deportation, escape or life in hiding from the oppressor. Many works of martyrdom literature form an important part of the school reading canon.

At MILITARY.PL, you will find martyrological literature which deals not only with the fate of Poland and Poles, but also of other countries and nationalities. These works bring you closer to the reality of the lives of those who experienced brutal human rights violations, hatred and cruelty. Although the events depicted are difficult, it is worth learning about the dark pages of history and thus building a more informed society so that the mistakes of the past are not repeated.
